Recently, I spoke with a person who was genuinely seeking answers about God and COVID-19. The question he had was, “Where is God in all of this?”
As people are suffering, where is God? As people are scared, where is God?
God has not left nor forsaken His people! God has not been caught by surprise. The Lord is in control, and the Bible says we may cast our cares upon Him, “…For he careth for you.”
Psalm 17 was written in a furnace. It was not written in a literal furnace but it has the smell of affliction upon it as David prayed to God. God helps us to know where He is during this time of hardship.
1. He is Close Enough to Hear Me
Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips. – Psalm 17:1
David prayed for God to hear him. He cried for the ear of God, for he knew that God was close enough to hear. The Bible reminds us that, “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” (Psalm 34:15)
2. He is Close Enough to Hold Me
Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. – Psalm 17:5
The psalmist asked God to hold up his steps. He wanted God to help him walk rightly in times of testing. As we wrestle with COVID-19, are we asking God to hold us in a right path? Let God help you keep your attitudes, your priorities, and your heart right before Him.
3. He is Close Enough to Hide Me
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings – Psalm 17:8
The prayer was made for God’s protection. Yes, we need the Lord’s mercy and protection. As we set our hearts to Him, calling upon Him and seeking His favor in humility and repentance, we may find the protection of God. Rest today knowing that God can hide you! He can hide your family! He can hide your children! As the world continues without answers, our God hides them who look unto Him in faith!
Where is God? He is in all places. He is seated upon the throne of Heaven, and He is nearer than the very breath we breathe. He is close enough to hear you, hold you, and hide you. Look unto the Lord Jesus Christ!
